I am a Scot, a writer, a journalist, and a teacher.
I grew up in a tiny village in rural southwest Scotland, three miles from the sea, and have lived in Berlin, Dublin, Kyiv, London, Minsk, Moscow and Washington DC.
I left my homeland to become a Reuters reporter in 1993. Many of my columns and reported pieces have been published in major outlets including Congressional Quarterly, Reuters, The Scotsman, The Times (London) and the Washington Post. I am completing my MFA at Mississippi University for Women's creative writing program, focusing on creative non-fiction and fiction.
